This was a good opening to this series. The MacLeod’s entire clan was massacred years before this story takes place, about 300 years, but still the legends of that clan and that massacre lives on.
Cara, who was orphaned after her parents were killed, lives near the deserted, and some think haunted, MacLeod castle.
While she is venturing near the castle on an errand, she finds herself in a life-threatening situation. Lucan comes to her rescue. The thing is Lucan is one of those MacLeods who is supposed to be dead.
Unbeknownst to all in the area, and most of Scotland and surrounding areas the 3 MacLeod’s (Fallon, Lucan, & Quinn) are very much alive. They have been in hiding from an evil druid who wants to use them for whatever her nefarious plans are.
The spark/chemistry between Lucan and Cara is immediate and very strong. They have quite a few obstacles in their way, but they are determined to be together no matter what.
This book is an introduction to this world with all of these warriors and druids, but the author didn’t let the worldbuilding get in the way too much of Lucan and Cara’s story.
